We got off to another early and somewhat confusing start. As usual, some didn’t fill up their gas tanks while most did. We navigated through the tiny town of Nan guided by GPS and radio until we all managed to regroup in front of Nan Airport then headed off to our lunch stop. We must have covered around 340km where the first half was relatively straight, but the latter was of the winding mountain road variety. We arrived at the noodle shop in Phayao around 1:00 pm with a little chaos when we tried to place a la carte orders for 50 people. |
Again our Mechanic team is keep busy as Both yellow 993c4s and 993 silver RWB Shifter came loose. it's must been from so many down shift and up shift thru the mountain with the owner known to be a heavy hand and foot! Both were promply fixed. Every body wait while the car was being worked on. RENNDRIVE crew no one get left behind. |
Then we were off to arguably the most beautiful and most enjoyable leg of our trip, yeah! The destination is the Royal Agricultural Station Angkhang in Chiangrai where the beautiful countless challenging corners bring us up to one of the most beautiful peaks in the country. The narrow and twisty roads are lined with Wild Himalayan Cherry in full bloom. (Prunus cerasodes) or Paya Sua Krong (local name). Similar to watching Sakura in Japan only we are doing it in high speed Porsches. |
Since most of us are veterans of the mountain road (hence the name NE III), we thundered through the twists in tight formation. Some might say we are crazy street racers, but truth is that we know our cars like the back of our hands and the trust we have in our fellow RennDrivers give us such confidence. With the aid of CB radios the lead cars were able to give heads up on crucial info and oncoming traffic. This allowed us to sometime make full use of both lanes and attacked the corners confidently. |
Our fellow mid-engined Porsches weren’t shy of using excessive speed in the corners, either. Why? Because in such a well-balanced car, they CAN! All fun must come to an end as we glided through the peaceful tree lines and heavenly garden of the Royal Agricultural Station Angkhang. We parked our Porsches in a reserved parking space, checked in, and came to dinner. That night we had so much fun under Angkhang night sky and cool breeze as we tried our best to finish all the wine and etc. that were brought along. What a tough job we had ! |
